Solution: wind power

Problem:

Coal and oil are nonrenewable resources. which means, once the coal or oil is burned there is no more. there is no way to renew it and make more coal or oil. so some scientist started to try to harvest the wind for a renewable ever providing energy source.

Pros

Cons

  • runs clean, no fuel to drill, frack, mine, transport or burn
  • A very renewable resource
  • sustainable
  • Costs are relatively low and continue to decrease
  • The power is essentially free once the infrastructure is paid for.
  • Low life cycle carbon footprint
  • wind is inconsistent, unsteady and unpredictable
  • Wind farms are generally located in rural areas that might be otherwise picturesque. They are considered by some people to be an eyesore.
  • Some people complain of noise from the turbines.
  • Wildlife impact. Not only birds, but bats have experienced fatalities.

Siemens has started to put wind turbines over open sea water instead of on land. by doing this they are saving alot of open land which could be developed as farm land, suburban land or industrial districts or just to be left as is to wildlife.
